High Adventure

High adventure programs have long been a part of Scouting in the Seattle area.  In the 1920's, the Olympic Guide program at Camp Parsons provided Scouts with the opportunity to take extended backpacking trips in the Olympic Mountains.  These expeditions continued through the 1950's and included summits of numerous prominent mountains.  The Olympic Area Council had its Mount Olympus Trek program where Scouts could summit Mount Olympus, the highest peak in the Olympic Mountains.  In the 1990's the Pacific Northwest High Adventure program was used to promote many different kinds of high adventure, including mountain biking, sea kayaking, and backpacking.
